Bike Delivery on the Rise

Writer Katie Johnston has an article in the Boston Globe today entitled "Bicycle deliveries are on the rise in Boston". Businesses such as "Metro Pedal Power" and "Breakaway Courier Systems" offer the delivery services at competitive rates compared to car and van shipments.

The article points out that pizza and papers have long been delivered by bikes because of efficiency. These days, chocolates, medical shipments, and even furniture are getting sent by bike. Companies that are reportedly shifting towards bike delivery of goods includes DiningIn (Take-out Food), Gentle Giant (Moving Company), Equal Exchange (Coffee Vendor), and Abcam Inc. (Medical Products).

Maybe commercial bike delivery businesses will someday surpass vehicle deliveries. Maybe we'll even see FedEx and UPS bikers delivering boxes for Amazon.com.
