Greenough Blvd DCR Improvement Project

An announcement from DCR was posted about traffic and safety improvements to the intersection of Greenough Boulevard and Grove Street.

The project will upgrade stop signs to traffic signals to create a safer crossing for pedestrians and cyclists traveling through the intersection which runs alongside the Dr. Paul Dudley White (Charles River) Bike Path.

Summer 2012 Open Street Events

Closing down city streets to car traffic isn't just for Memorial Drive anymore (though, Cambridge's popular car-free weekly event is now running until the middle of November).

The City of Boston is kicking off a series of events called "Circle the City" as part of their Open Streets Initiative. Come out this summer to walk, bike, dance, and roll on open, car-free streets in and between Boston area parks! Circle The City is free and open to people of all ages.

June 24, 1-5 pm
Franklin Park kick-off featuring free activities for people of all ages and a live performance of the Boston POPS Brass Ensemble

July 15, 11 am-4 pm
Walk, bike, roll and play with us on Open Streets. Featuring a car-free corridor between Franklin Park and Jamaica Pond.

August 5, 10 am-1 pm
Celebrate the city with us along the Rose Kennedy Greenway. Featuring a car-free corridor along the downtown waterfront.

Circle the City is organized by the Emerald Necklace Conservancy, the Boston Collaborative for Food and Fitness, LivableStreets Alliance, Franklin Park Coalition, and the City of Boston.

Enjoy more Open Streets this summer in Somerville! Somerville is launching its own Open Streets Initiative. This summer you will be able to stroll, bike, skate, or jog between events and parks on car-free streets in Somerville too!

Key Route 73 Meeting - June 7th

The following announcement comes from the MBTA.

Bus Route 73
Belmont/Watertown
Community Meeting

Dear MBTA Riders and Interested Parties,

The MBTA will be presenting the Key Bus Route Improvement Program, in coordination with the Belmont Street/Trapelo Road Reconstruction Project, at a community meeting, to gather feedback on how to improve Bus Route 73, focusing on Belmont and Watertown.

The Belmont Street/Trapelo Road Reconstruction Project will design and construct the bus stop recommendations that are generated from this meeting. Recommendations for bus stop consolidation and the addition of customer amenities have been developed as part of both projects, in consultation with the MBTA, MassDOT and the Towns of Belmont and Watertown. Bus stops may be relocated and/or eliminated.

Passengers on non-Key Bus Routes will benefit from improvements and be affected by changes made at Key Bus Route stops.

Bus Route 73 operates between Waverley Square and Harvard Station via Trapelo Road, Mt. Auburn Hospital, Cushing Square, Harvard University. It provides connections to the Red Line, Fitchburg Commuter Rail and Bus Routes 1, 66, 68, 69, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 77, 78, 86 and 96.
